The Mental Health Building at BC CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL
The first major step against removing the stigma and ignorance associated with mental illness was The Kelty Patrick Dennehy Foundation $1 million fulfillment in November 2006 to BC Children's Hospital Foundation to support the construction of a new Child and Adolescent Mental Health building. The foundation was the primary private donor of this facility.
The Mental Health building, located on the grounds of BC Children's Hospital, opened its doors in January 2007. It was the first freestanding facility of its kind dedicated to youth mental health in Canada. The modernized 4-story facility serves children and adolescents with serious mental health challenges from all across the province. Services such as emergency care, long term psychiatric care, an outreach program, as well as a significant area for assessment and training are provided -- all helping to speed up the backlog of patients needing assessment and provide facilities to train the nurses, doctors, medical students, and other mental health professionals in BC.
The Kelty Foundation and BC Children's Hospital Foundation continue to work very closely on this long journey against mental health diseases.

The Kelty Mental Health Resource Centre at BC Children's Hospital
In January 2007, The Kelty Patrick Dennehy Foundation pledged $450,000 to the Kelty Resource Centre - a Child, Youth, and Family Knowledge Exchange Resource Centre.
The center is situated on the 3rd floor in the new Child & Adolescent Mental Health Building on the campus of BC Children's Hospital. The Centre provides new and current information resources to families, children, youth and communities, increases the consultation and assessment capacity to all youth in need of help throughout BC through Tele-Mental Health, and facilitates knowledge in care and health promotion/prevention among health professionals through Tele-Mental Health.
The Kelty Foundation continues to support the Kelty Mental Health Resource Centre.

Crisis Centre
The Crisis Intervention & Suicide Prevention Centre of BC (Crisis Centre) has been providing emotional support to youth, adults and seniors in distress since 1969. As a safe place to turn to when there seems to be no hope, the Crisis Centre is operated by 375+ highly-trained frontline volunteers who are supported by a small team of professional staff. The Crisis Centre team supports and empowers individuals to see their own strengths and options, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. As an award-winning, internationally accredited organization, the Crisis Centre offers a comprehensive range of leading-edge programs that are evidence-based and utilize most promising and best practices.
In 2010, the Crisis Centre impacted more than 75,000 lives throughout British Columbia.

Lions Gate Hospital Foundation
Between 2010 and 2011, The Kelty Patrick Dennehy Foundation donated $100,000.00 to the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation towards a new Mental Health Building to begin construction in the Fall of 2013.
In our ongoing effort to support the stigma associated with depression and to fund programs and programs for care, research and education, The Kelty Dennehy Foundation is pleased to be associated with the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation initiative to address the Mental Health needs in their community.

Whistler Community Services Society
The Kelty Patrick Dennehy Foundation is committed to ensuring ongoing awareness and education of depression throughout the Whistler Community and therefore, involved in local activities directed at bringing attention to the neglected disease of depression.
In 2005 and 2007, The Kelty Patrick Dennehy Foundation pioneered the Whistler High School Depression Screening and Play. Partnering with the Canadian Mental Health Association, North Shore Branch, the Sea to Sky Mental Health Stabilization Team and Whistler Community Services Society, they delivered depression screening to the Whistler High School and the play, "Crazy for Life." In 2006, the Stuff Getting You Down Awareness Campaign was created and designed by Sue Rea, a director of the Foundation. This campaign is an ongoing media campaign aimed to promote and make aware to all people living in Whistler the contact phone number of the two Youth Outreach Workers and the Crisis Stabilization Team.
In the spring of 2006 and the winter of 2008, Dr. Allen Young, psychologist and researcher in depression, presented to a sold out audience, an eye-opening discussion on depression and its devastating effects.
In 2008, The Kelty Foundation assisted Greg McDonnell, a Whistler resident, with his tuition towards attaining a Masters in the Counseling Program at University of Victoria. He is now the Executive Director of the Whistler Community Services Society. He hopes to open his own part-time private practice next year.
Annually, The Kelty Foundation participates in the Whistler Canada Day Parade. The Foundation sponsors the Squamish Pipe Band to lead the parade. The Foundation's volunteers hand out wristbands and/or educational information on depression.

University of BC/ Vancouver General Hospital
The Centre of Excellence in Depression Research is a partnership between Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) and University of British Columbia (UBC). It is driven and directed by a senior clinician scientist who is called the "Chair".
In 2005, The Kelty Patrick Dennehy Foundation funded $500,000 towards the Chair in Depression Research at UBC/VGH Centre of Excellence for Depression Research. Dr Allen Young, an expert in the field of depression and renowned for his research of the neuroendocrine system, travelled from Scotland to lead the team.
By assisting in the establishment of this Chair, the Kelty Patrick Dennehy Foundation envisions its support as an important step toward providing not just innovative new research and treatments for depression, but also new hope for all those affected by this debilitating disease.

The Kelty Patrick Dennehy Foundation is very proud to be the BC Regional Partner of Jack.org. Jack.org is training and empowering young leaders to revolutionize mental health in every province and territory. Through Do Something, Jack Talks, Jack Chapters, and Jack Summits, young leaders identify and dismantle barriers to positive mental health in their communities. And through ambitious innovations in youth mental health like Be There, they give people the mental health resources they need to educate themselves. They are, with their partners, working towards a Canada where all young people understand how to take care of their own mental health and look out for each other. A Canada without shame, where all those who need support get the help they deserve. The movement is powered by tens of thousands of advocates and allies across every province and territory of Canada.
